Further Education (FE) and Sixth Form

Since its inception in 2000 the Regional Support Centres have worked closely with the Further Education (FE) and Sixth Form Colleges sector. We exist to enable institutions and their staff make the most of existing technology through innovation in the delivery of learning.

We can help organisations to use technology to address governmental policies, such as the Framework for Excellence or Every Child Matters, and individual learning provider strategies.

All of our services are open to this sector. We can provide support and guidance in the following ways:

• Forums
• Visits
• Events - a wide range of workshops are run by the RSC and by our partners.
• Helpdesk
• Mailing Lists for a wide range of roles and topics including Information Learning Technology (ILT), Learning Resources (LRC) and Staff Development. You can post your queries, suggestions or feedback.
• Staff Development, which may be delivered by RSC staff or cascaded or brokered.

Of particular interest to Further Education and Sixth Form Colleges may be:

• e-Progress Reviews provide a quality perspective as part of self-assessment and benchmarking or before an inspection.
• We can also advise learning provider Corporations and Governing Bodies on the strategic role of new and emerging technology through input to Governor/Corporation meetings and other activities.
• We offer curriculum review as a structured process to consider and evaluate the use of e-learning in a chosen curriculum area. This could be something as simple as sharing effective e-practice between different areas or a more involved process exploring a curriculum area in detail.
• Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs) offer a range of tools to support rich online learning experiences but many learning providers have found that their VLE is only really used as a bank of course-related materials. We can help support you in changing this.
