
East Midlands RSC is using Moodle, the open source course management system, to provide a range of additional online resources and facilities to support our services. These include: ILT resources and resource links; references to useful information sources; forums for online discussion; "how to" guides and training event support materials.

Moodle is an example of a course management system or Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). These are online platforms that provide a number of key functions, including:
There are a number of VLEs currently available, including commercial products such as Blackboard, WebCT and Learnwise. Moodle, however, is offered as "open source". This means that it can be downloaded and used for no cost, but that there is an expectation that the community of people using the system will contribute to its development.
