E-assessment can be used during the different stages of the assessment process. With well-thought-out design it can be used effectively for both diagnostic and formative assessment. It can also be used to collect evidence for summative assessment where appropriate, for example in collecting evidence for a portfolio of competence based assessment.
E-testing forms part of the e-assessment process. Potential implementation gives rise to a number of questions in relation to testing facilities and effective practices relating to this form of assessment. QCA published guidance in 2007 for those running e-testing centres and Qfqual has recently commissioned research into issues relating to the integrity of systems used to run on-line testing.
The RSC can help you to explore options for e-assessment and give advice on tools available to implement effective assessment.
Resources from an e-assessment event run by RSC East Midlands are available on our Moodle.
