As manager of the JISC Regional Support Centre for the East Midlands, it’s my job to make sure that the RSC team meet our remit to provide advice and support to regional learning providers. I’ve spent most of my working life in the Learning and Skills sector, initially in Bath as a teacher of geography and economics but later drawn into teacher training and e-learning.
For me, education and training opens up opportunities; it gives choices and enables people to grow. Technology is just another tool for learning – but a special one in that it gives wider access, enables individual needs to be met and improves the efficiency of means to meet ends.

Assistant Manager - Judi Millage
I have worked for the RSC since 2001, first as an ILT Advisor and more recently as Assistant Manager. During that time I have seen the services that we offer develop and change to meet the needs of regional learning providers and I would like to think that the support we provide has contributed, in some small way, to the progress that providers have made towards embedding e-learning technologies.
Areas of work with which I’m currently involved include: supporting strategic managers to embed ILT into all key business processes, not least learning and teaching; working with staff development managers to integrate e-learning into staff development programmes; supporting library/LRC managers in the use of e-resources.
I firmly believe that technology, when used effectively and appropriately, can bring many benefits to the learning provider and look forward to working with you to help realise those benefits.

I have responsibility for advice and guidance on Accessibility and Inclusion and I also cover the Specialist Collges sector at the RSC.
Before taking up this post I was working from home as a LeTTOL (Learning
to Teach On-Line) online tutor. One of the things this has taught
me is the value of working in a team. My first degree was in Politics
and History and I taught Art and History in middle school, though
trained for Primary. Previously I worked in libraries, both public and in education.

I have responsibility for Technical Infrastructure advice and guidance at the RSC.
Prior to
joining the RSC I initially trained and worked as an electronics and computing engineer. An additional
20 years of teaching experience, 10 of those in the FE sector as a lecturer and Curriculum Manager for IT,
I also ran my own businesses as an IT Consultant for SMEs and worked as a Commercial Photographer.
With an understanding of factors from both a curriculum and a technical
perspective, you will see that I will provide a much more strategic
level of IT infrastructure advice to help ensure that appropriate
resources are allocated to provide IT value for money and to meet
long term technological requirements for both the curriculum and administration processes in an organisation.
I also have responsibility for providing advice and guidance on learning space design and am currently undertaking a project on identifying the support needs of providers in the region with regards to Sustainability and Green issues.

I have responsibility for advice and guidance on Learning Technologies at the RSC.
My background is varied, ranging from Aerospace research to Clinical
Psychology, but I've spent the last 16 years in both HE and FE as
a researcher, lecturer and ILT co-ordinator. Given this, I'm very
aware of the challenges facing institutions in making the best use
of ILT, but see many exciting opportunities for enhancing and developing
education through the use of technology. I'm now in my fourth year
at the East Midlands RSC, and am the team Learning Technologist.

I have responsibility for advice and guidance in the Work Based Learning (WBL) sector.
I’ve
joined the RSC to develop the new part of the organisation’s
remit as our support is extended to cover Work Based Learning (WBL)
provision. I come with extensive experience, gained over the
past 14 years with WBL providers in Leicester and Lincoln.
I have held a number of positions, both ‘at the sharp end’
as assessor and verifier and in a range of management roles from Business
Manager to Quality Manager. I have a good all-round appreciation
of the sector and of the issues and opportunities that exist.

I have responsibility for advice and guidance in the Adult & Community Learning (ACL) sector.
I originally
joined the RSC as the HE advisor on a secondment from Lincoln College ,
where I was working as a lecturer in the School of Business. I then took on my current role permanently.
I had worked for the college for many years, taking in a range of
roles in administration, human resources, the business development
Centre and the college’s ‘Learning Shop’.
I have always been interested in integrating ILT throughout my teaching
and, as a consequence, took on the role of ILT mentor for the School
of Business.

Events & Admin Co-ordinator - Gwen Callaghan
I started this job in June 2000 right at the beginning of the set
up of RSCs and I was the first Administrator to be appointed. My role
is to organise events in the region by sourcing venues and ensuring
that each event runs smoothly with as few hiccups as possible. This
involves a great deal of customer care and problem solving.
I am also responsible for the financial transactions that take place
in the team and ensure the budget is maintained and that accurate
records are reported back to JISC for audit purposes. I quite enjoy
the financial side of my job and gained an accounting qualification
through the AAT in 2004, which helped me understand how the college
finance department works!
